Florafelt Slimline Drain Tray End Cap and Splice Assembly

How to add end caps and splicers to the Florafelt Slimline Drain Trays and Edge Frames.

Glue and Sealant

Both the Slimline Drain Tray and End Caps are made from PVC glue so you can weld them together using standard PVC pipe cement. To insure a waterproof seal you will then use 100% Silicone sealant to seal the joints once the PVC glue has set and dried. PVC Glue is toxic so do this outside or in a well ventilated room. Wear rubber gloves and have paper towels handy for quick cleanup. Use caution with your work surface as the glues can damage surfaces.

You will need:

  • Heavy Duty PVC Cement
  • 100% Silicone Sealant
  • Coarse Sandpaper
  • Rubber Gloves
  • Paper towels
  • 2 3-inch C-Clamps

Pro Tips:

  • PVC Cement dries quickly so have everything prepared and ready to assemble once the glues are applied.
  • Silicone sealant can be very messy. Have paper towels ready to wipe up any excess.
  • Work on a disposable surface covering for easy cleanup.

Scuff the Drain Tray Edge

  • Use a coarse sandpaper to thoroughly rough up the inside of the tray 1-inch from the edge.

Scuff the End Cap Internal Edges

  • Use coarse sandpaper to scuff the 3 bottom internal sides that will connect with the inside of the drain tray.

Apply PVC Cement to the Drain Tray Inside Edges

  • Liberally apply the PVC Cement to the internal tray edge.

Apply PVC Cement to the End Cap Flange Lower 3 Sides

  • Quickly apply PVC Cement to the end cap only on the internal flanges that will make contact with the inside of the drain tray.

Quickly Assemble the Parts

  • While the glue is still very wet, and quickly push the parts together.
  • Push firmly to the bottom of the tray and squeeze the sides together. Use a paper towel to wipe up the outside edges.
  • Leave overflow inside the tray as this will no be seen and will help to make a stronger weld.

Add Clamps to Sides and Top

  • To make sure the connection is solid.
  • Apply clamps to the sides walls and to the top.
  • Only apply gentle pressure so not to damage the delicate plastic parts.
  • Leave this in place for 1 hour.

Apply Silicone Sealant to the Internal Joints

  • Use the 100% Silicone Sealant to waterproof the connection.
  • Apply to all internal edges
  • Allow to dry overnight before adding water.

Splice Joints are Attached Using the Same Technique

  • Scuff the internal edges of the frame and outer edges of the splice connector.
  • Apply PVC glue both parts.
  • Press the parts together and remove excess from the outside edges.
  • Clamp and allow to dry for one hour.
  • Apply silicone sealant to the internal edges.
  • Allow to dry overnight before adding water.
