“Hiking through the Columbia River Gorge or Silver Creek Falls, I’ve been intrigued by the natural beauty of plants growing on vertical surfaces, like rock walls. The first time I saw a Patrick Blanc installation using plants as works of art applied to the outside of buildings, I found a new passion – vertical gardens. In the 70’s French botanist Patrick Blanc began using synthetic materials to create walls replicating natural vertical habitats. His concept of vertical gardens has been proven with many successful and beautiful installations worldwide. My work follows the Blanc style by using a modular panel system with an array of pockets using felt made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.” – Randy Raburn
