Crafted Color Living Walls by Randy Raburn Design

Florafelt Pockets Living Wall by Randy Raburn Design in Portland Oregon.

The mix of color and texture in planting design sets the bar for top landscape designers. The integration of color from the surrounding site sets the tone and mood for a subtle and sensitive way to create a soft and healing mood in your garden. The mix of art and horticulture can produce a harmonious experience that is breathtaking. Landscape designer, Randy Raburn designs elegantly crafted Florafelt Pocket living walls for the Portland, Oregon area.

Hiking through the Columbia River Gorge or Silver Creek Falls, I’ve been intrigued by the natural beauty of plants growing on vertical surfaces, like rock walls. The first time I saw a Patrick Blanc installation using plants as works of art applied to the outside of buildings, I found a new passion – vertical gardens. In the 70’s French botanist Patrick Blanc began using synthetic materials to create walls replicating natural vertical habitats. His concept of vertical gardens has been proven with many successful and beautiful installations worldwide. My work follows the Blanc style by using a modular panel system with an array of pockets using felt made from 100% recycled plastic bottles.” – Randy Raburn

San Francisco Botanical Bookstore Living Wall Gets a Colorful Makeover

Florafelt Pockets living wall donated by Plants On Walls at San Francisco Botanical Bookstore.

In a much-needed spring renewal for all of us in 2021, the living wall at the San Francisco Botanical Garden Bookstore gets a refresh and restoration. Older plants are trimmed back and fresh, flowering color is added.

The amazing volunteers wrapped the plants and filled the Florafelt Pockets in a single day. Even after 4 years, the felt is easily cleaned with a hose, and the root wraps are as durable as ever.

The Florafelt Pockets living wall system was donated by Chris Bribach of Plants On Walls in 2016. It’s ever-changing beauty has become a well-loved feature, as well as a tangible asset for bookstore and nursery sales. Located at the entrance of the park, the bookstore is open to the public.

Florafelt Wraps Reused for Living Wall Renewal

The San Francisco Botanical Garden Bookstore asked Chris from Plants On Walls to refresh the Florafelt Pockets living wall garden design. Chris uses reusable Florafelt Wraps to swaddle ferns and colorful flowering perennials to the wall.
