Florafelt Pockets Restore Living Columns at the Perez Art Museum Miami

Florafelt Flex Pockets for Perez Museum Miami living columns by Patric Blanc new felt and replant by Brightview Landscape Miami.

The Perez Art Museum (PAMM) in Miami boasts the famous living columns created by Patric Blanc, which needed a solution for dripping and other maintenance issues. Brightview Landscaping Miami turned to Florafelt Pockets for the answer. These structures required a revolutionary idea, and we developed a flexible planting pocket for curved and other dimensional surfaces.

The artistic vision was instantly restored after planting the first column.Since changing plants is as easy as slipping them in and out of their pockets, the column is carefully refined into a precision design that can be used on the others. One year later, the superiority of the Florafelt system is apparent at a glance, and reveals the dramatic beauty to come.

Our flexible planting pockets vastly expand possibilities for any challenging project. We look forward to helping you create a living wall where nobody thought it was possible.

The Newly Planted Florafelt Test Column is a Big Improvement

October 2018: A single column is planted using Florafelt pleated pockets to offer a solution to the original installation made with the cut-and-slit felt-planted columns. The tidy and organized black pockets are already an improvement.

November 2019 (a year later): The Florafelt pleated pocket test column is fully filled and grown in beautifully. This is a perfect example of how Florafelt Pleated Pockets distribute moisture and allow for easier maintenance.

The Future for the Perez Museum Living Columns

As soon as new funding becomes available, the old cut-and-slit columns can be updated with the Florafelt Pockets. We are excited to be a part of a solution that can make the original vision not only easier to maintain but become the glorious beauty it was intended to be.

Interior Plant Design Style by Living Walls Edmonton

A towering living wall for a private residence is the showstopper of three recent projects from Living Walls Edmonton. Interior Plantscape Designer Chris Myers makes a bold statement with his unbound design in a loft that soars to the second floor. Only Florafelt Pocket Panels make it possible to have such a dramatic home feature. It’s always necessary to change plants from time to time and Florafelt makes it easy. Simply remove the struggling plant by lifting if from the pocket and sliding the replacement inside, restoring the wall to full vibrancy in a matter of minutes.

The clean lines of crisp surrounds provide stylish frames for the planted units, including the show display seen here. Recessed stainless tanks for irrigation integrate seamlessly and collect runoff for maximum water conservation. Micro LED lights in the frames provide supplemental lighting but also create theatrical contrasts of greenery and shadow.

In the final new project from Chris Myers, an office project softens a casual meeting spot. The positive effects of plants in the workplace are well-known. A small living wall summons our innate human comfort with nature and inspires a spirit of collaboration and trust..

Stylish Jungle Living Wall at Population Hair Salon

Florafelt Pocket Panel Living Wall at Population Hair Salon Mission San Francisco.

Good styling comes in all forms, including hair and atmosphere! The inventive staff at Population Hair Salon in San Francisco’s Mission district create a singular experience for clients using lots of plants, one of the best methods to remove toxins from the air and soothe the spirit, naturally.

After years of growth, a sprawling jungle effect has emerged, behind the washing station which creates more of a spa-like environment. Salon owner, Brian installed a similar living wall in his first location and customers found it so exciting he planted another in his second location even before it opened.

The system is simple. An automatic irrigation drip line waters the Florafelt Pockets living wall from the top. Excess water collects in the bottom gutter that directs it to a drain.

This Salon, with its proliferation of plants, has become a San Francisco landmark (at least for locals) elevating the prestige of a superior salon with an eco-friendly embrace of the city’s history and ethic.

Vertical Gardens Make Us Happy

A wall of plants is more than a beautiful home feature. It’s an entire community of living things. Together they have a life of their own and create a distinct personality. The leaves grow and move every day, creating a subtle but distinct change. It’a living ecosystem that’s complex and rich, and that’s why they draw our attention.

The deep green of the living wall with burlwood table and lighting created with seed pods enhance the organic feel to this space.

Getting to Know Your Vertical Garden

Touching your plants lets you know your living wall better. You can feel the raw power of life in each leaf. Interacting with plants reminds of the miracle of living things. Getting to know your living wall will also make the plants healthier and happier. For example, wiping leaves removes dust so they can breath easier. The surface of leaves absorb carbon dioxide from our breath and converts it to oxygen, which helps us breathe easier too.

Like a window into a forest, this living wall melts into the design of this architectural home.

Plants Give Back

Plants bring huge joy. We love potted plants in our homes and offices, but it’s magnified with an entire wall. We spend most of our time indoors, so a vertical garden is a reminder of how important nature is for our well-being. It feels like an open window and lets us experience nature every day.

Philodendron Congo Green loves bright light, and pairs nicely with Philodendron Xanadu Neon to provide striking color contrast.

Inspiring Green Design

This living wall is designed by the architect and owners of this Noe Valley San Francisco home. With their construction team, they created a waterproof alcove with floor drains. An inset plywood surface was waterproofed with rubber pond liner, and Florafelt Pocket Panels were mounted using deck screws. Irrigation tubing was added at the top, and water slowly drips to each plant. Full-spectrum LED lighting provides perfect light levels. A mix of philodendrons and others are were added to create dramatic green sweeps with subtle textures. Over the years, the plants were rearranged, and new species introduced. The Florafelt Pockets and Wraps system makes it easy to sculpt this well-loved living wall.

Florafelt Pockets Make it Easy

Affordable and elegantly designed synthetic felt pockets are mounted easily to walls. Once irrigation and drainage is in place they are quickly planted to provide you with an instant living experience.
