Peacefully Green Living Wall by Oasis Gardenscapes

Florafelt Pockets living wall by Seth Stottlemyer of Oasis Gardenscapes in Sarasota, Florida.

Overlooking the Florida intercoastal waterway from Siesta Key, a floating array of ferns and philodendrons create a gently framed surround for an elegant buddha. It’s the ultimate experience for an outdoor dining patio.

Vibrant plants highlight a powerful buddha sculpture. The contrast creates a forceful sensation made light and airy by delicate pteris cretica ferns.

This high-design home requires a deliberative touch for installation and maintenance. This is where the Florafelt Pocket System shines. Florafelt Wraps contain the soil and roots, allowing precision artistic modifications. The wrapped plants also allow Seth to change and maintain the wall as needed.

Add Orchids to Your Living Wall

Orchid roots add organic interest

Orchids are added to the vibrantly colorful living wall at Young Dental in San Francisco. This wildly complex design has evolved using orchids and bromeliads along with philodendron cordatum. This custom recirculating system is made with Florafelt Grow Strip woven into a narrow 6-in grid. This allows for more complexity in the design and the use of smaller plant materials.

Orchids are simply pinned to the surface

Note how the orchids are added to the surface of the felt so the roots will only receive they’re preferred place of being close to a humid condition. First remove all the bark that normally comes with orchids. Then choose a location on the living wall where the roots can hang down to add a natural organic look. The orchid’s roots are held in place using support sticks that typically supplied with the plants. You can also use wire, pins or other creative means to support your orchids to the Florafelt material.
