After years of growth, a sprawling jungle effect has emerged, near the washing station which helps create a spa-like environment. Owner Brian installed a living wall in his first location and customers found it so exciting he planted another in his second location even before it opened.

A drip line nourishes the Florafelt Pockets wall from the top. Excess water collects in the bottom gutter that directs it to a drain.

Sam Clar Office Furniture Showroom Living Wall

A striking living wall adds a distinctive, natural feel to the Sam Claire office furniture showroom in Concord, California. In another amazing design from Planted Design, the Florafelt Pro System towers 18 feet and features low light interior plants.

A custom circulating system of tanks and pumps irrigates wall automatically, making this dramatic wall a no-fuss addition. The frame blends the wall and the space and integrates the existing design. Low-cost and easily-installed LED lights hang from the ceiling and provide full spectrum lighting.

Yoobi Los Angeles Office Living Wall

Yoobi needed a fresh new look and feel for the living wall in their Los Angeles headquarters. Local designer Florals by Mitzi created an inventive angled pattern of tropical plants including anthurium, variegated pothos, schefflera, and bromeliads. A new jungle is ready to grow!

The pockets of the Florafelt System made the update easy, since rearranging the wall is as simple as slipping in new plants. Like the most far-sighted gardening plans, the new wall will evolve in unique and unexpected ways.

Florafelt Pocket Panels were used to create a custom recirculating system. The tank was covered with recycled wood materials.

As this project demonstrates, the Florafelt Pocket System makes inventive ideas come to life with ease, even years after installation. Made from recycled, non-toxic plastic water bottles, the pockets are durable, simple to clean, and provide ultimate creativity for new ideas. 

Please take note of the reclaimed wood frame, installed with the wall in 2011 and still providing a dramatic stage. A tank and pump provide a simple but effective irrigation system.

Anchor Brewing Rooftop Vertical Herb Garden

Anchor Brewing company harvests organic herbs from their vertical gardens to garnish cocktails at their rooftop tasting patio in San Francisco. Staff have been using the vertical gardens for about 3 years now to add a fresh experience for their clients. These Florafelt Pro System living walls were originally installed and currently maintained by Living Green Design.

Local horticulturist continues the experience

Interior plantscapers will maintain and nurture the greenery throughout the interior, including the living wall. Based on a design that offers natural colors and a variety of textures, the living wall is a seamless complement to the artful planters arrayed in multiple locations.

Installed in a single day by the Atlanta team of Plants on Walls, the custom design called for a recirculating tank and supplemental lighting. It will grow into a fully unique micro-landscape that will marvel visitors for years to come.

Project Update After One Month

After a month the plants have begun to grow in nicely. As expected the grasses and Lamium are the fastest to grow and first to begin filling in.

Water conservation is essential in many places but drought tolerant plants come in a huge variety of colors and textures. Artful and exciting designs take full advantage of native species that are well-adapted to microclimates.

Eileen Kelly of Dig Your Garden Landscape Design created a vertical sweep of colors and shapes for her Sausalito client. The first phase of a complete redesign of the front yard, the living wall is a bold statement about the beauty of conservation.

A planting grid is used to plan the living wall layout. Flowing patterns of colorful varieties make this a living work of art. Drought tolerant plants used for this design:

  • Aeonium ‘Pinwheel’
  • Acorus gramineus ‘Licorice’
  • Cares Testacea ‘Prairie Fire’
  • Lamium ‘White Nancy’
  • Oxalis ‘Burgundy Form’
  • Senecio mandraliscae

As the plants grow in they will completely cover the felt and grid. Irrigation timing will be adjusted to minimize water use for this brilliantly orchestrated design.

Floating Home Living Walls Help Build Community in Amsterdam

This spring Joris Bunschoten, The Vertical Planting Specialist, Amsterdam installed three living walls with Florafelt Pocket Panels for a floating house in Amsterdam. The project is called Schoonschip or ‘Clean Ship’. There are thirty floating houses in a canal in Amsterdam to create more new living space for this sustainable floating community.

Life on the water in the city center

A future vision for green sustainable communities. Living on the water lets you feel a more immediate connection to nature. Thirty homes float on concrete rafts at Schoonschip in Amsterdam. Architect Jorrit Houwert of +31 Architects is just one of the architects involved who engineers structures according to weight and green materials to work with the constraints of a floating structure. Bromeliads and Succulents Living Wall by Lindsey Graves of Living Green Design

Floating above a reflecting pool, the living wall turns an interesting architectural feature into a stylized celebration of earth and water, nature’s most harmonious elements. The living wall planting grid assembles quickly using the Florafelt Pro System.

Florafelt Pro System Living Wall Installation by Lindsey Graves of Living Green Design

Lindsey Graves of Living Green Design used the Florafelt Pro System to create this living wall installation. Stainless steel grids were mounted to the wall then the water shield is inserted. For this install a custom recirculation system was added to use water from the pond below. Florafelt Grow Strip is then woven in then Florafelt Root Wrapped plants are added.

Wire grids are added attached to the stucco wall using stainless clips and Tapcon concrete screws.

Water shields are inserted and irrigation tubing is attached to the top of the grid using zip ties. For this recirculating system, 3/8″ holes are drilled into the tubing above each grid column.

Florafelt Grow strip is woven into the grid using the pleated method. A guide is used to make pocket depths consistent. This growing method is our proprietary method under US Patent 8141294.

The Florafelt Pro System is ready to plant. The pond below will act as a water reservoir. Water will be recirculated using the pump below. A timer is located behind the wall. A hole behind the system is large enough to fit the submersible water pump’s 3-prong cord.
